Florentine New Year – Presentation of the restoration of the Dead Christ
๐ Officina Creativa LAB – Conventino Fuori le Mura
๐ 12 noon
On the occasion of the Florentine New Year, the conservation restoration of the sculpture depicting the Dead Christ, a painted plaster cast from the Pieve di San Martino in Sesto Fiorentino that was severely damaged during the March 2025 flood, will be presented to the public.
The restoration work made it possible to recover the work after the severe damage it had suffered: the sculpture was in fact water-soaked, covered with mud and broken in two parts at the level of the belly.
After a delicate cleaning and consolidation operation, the restorers reassembled the fragments, plastered the fracture lines, and pictorially reintegrated the abrasions, restoring chromatic unity and structural stability to the work.
The restoration was carried out completely free of charge by the company Valentini Ventura Restauro d’opere d’arte, under the direction and high supervision of the Soprintendenza, with Dr. Graziella Cirri and restorer Francesca Leolini.
The meeting will feature speakers:
- Graziella Cirri, art historian
- Don Daniele Bani, parish priest of the Pieve di San Martino
- Daniela Valentini, restorer
The event is an important moment of reflection on the value of protection and conservation of the artistic heritage, especially in relation to calamitous events that put its integrity at risk.
